Beyond 2020 return from New Zealand
Six very excited athletes touched down in Auckland on Friday the 20th of July, with an event filled week in front them. Saturday morning, we met our camp hosts and had a full training session to shake off a little jet lag that was predominantly strength conditioning and basic skill work. We had a full afternoon in the oldest and largest museum in NZ and enjoyed a cultural show as well as interactive displays. Sunday morning was spent in the best rock climbing venue we have ever seen, then off to the Skytower in the city to soak up the view. Souvenir shopping was another highlight then time to settle and focus on the purpose of the trip.
Next was 3 full days of training with NZ’s best of the best which brought about an amazing environment where all the athletes pushed their limits, encouraged and motivated each other.
It goes without saying that this trip has obviously helped our boys tremendously in regard to their skill development and mental toughness. They all tried hard and made respective progress with quite a few desirable breakthroughs on certain apparatus.
It was amazing for them to train with similar aged boys from another country and program, and certainly widens their eyes to the gymnastics world, motivates them to come out of their comfort zone and endeavor to do their best and show their physical potential.
Finally, a big thank you to David Phillips and his team of coaches at Tri Star gymnastics for making the team feel so welcome and making it such a positive experience that we hope to repeat in the future.
